I had apparently gone white and was still looking around at the road. My partner asked me what was wrong and I told him what I had just seen. He went white and more silent as I related what had happened. Then he told me that he had actually seen the aftermath of the accident, one night when he was returning home from work and there was a police car at the Macclesfield end of the road and an ambulance at the other blocking the road to traffic. Inside the cordoned area was a blue car with the drivers door open and an older lady sitting there. The paramedics were working on the young woman. I told him that it was an accident and no-one was to blame for it. The young woman was called Tracy.
A few years ago, I had been to my partners house and he was driving us home at about 1am. It was a dry warm night and we had the windows down. There is a small section of the road where it does a curve and a dip and used to quite dark. As we approached this area, I saw in my minds eye, a youngish woman staggering down the road along the pavement on the other side of the road. She was clearly drunk. She heard a car coming up behind her and stuck her thumb out to try and cadge a lift but the car drove past. Then another car could be heard by her and she repeated the trick, only this time she stumbled on the kerb and fell into the road. She was hit by the blue car, which the driver had no chance to stop as the woman driver didn't see her until it was too late.
