Maybe I'll do a series of blog posts about what I can find out about my ancestors. I also want to do a series of blog posts with locations for my novels but I won't be giving any spoilers! Watch this space!
I am really looking forward to reading this new book by Barbara Erskine. It is released on Thursday 15th April 2021 and I have had my Mother's day gift of a book voucher, ready and waiting for it. I can't use the voucher to pre order it though so I will have to do so first thing on Thursday morning. I recently watched a webinair hosted by the publishers where they talked with Barbara. I guess promoting and book tours have to be done virtually for the foreseeable future. It was really interesting listening to Barbara and hearing how she researches and develops her characters. It has inspired me to put together my own novels into something other than the slightly jumbled filing system in my head. The Dream Weavers is set in the century before the Saxon Chronicles, on the borders between Wales and England, where quite a few of Barbara's books are set. I like the way Barbara blends a modern contemporary story with a historical character. I have also been inspired to research my own family tree to try to unearth a few skeletons but I haven't found any yet. Most of my ancestors have led quite unspectacular lives! I can say I am not descended from royalty or even anyone remotely famous. I will hopefully write a review when I have read it but it will have to wait until I have finished the Saxon Chronicles series by Bernard Cornwell.

I first watched the series a few years ago, when it was on BBC but I didn't really follow it. I rediscovered this little gem on Netflix in March 2021 and binge watched the first four seasons of the show. I got totally wrapped up in the characters and wanted to know what happened next. I had a couple of the ebooks on my Kobo and managed to find the rest and I have been reading these ever since. I am now onto the 6th book, Death of Kings. The books in order are: The Last Kingdom The Pale Horseman The Lords of the North Sword Song The Burning Land Death Of Kings The Pagan Lord The Empty Throne Warriors of the Storm The Flame Bearer War of the Wolf Sword of Kings War Lord I have seen some differences in the TV series compared to the books. Some characters have died differently in the source material than how it is portrayed in the show. I am enjoying reading the books and I am looking forward to season 5 when it is released. It helps that Alexander Dreymon is easy on the eye and reading the books gives more of an insight into the character of Uthred's thinking and why he does everything. I find I am reading it in the characters accent when Uthred is speaking. I am compiling a list of all the place names used in the books. I can work out most but I need to refer to it a few times. I like that runes make a frequent appearance in the books as well. I have a set of rose quartz runes that I use every now and again. I also have my mum's set of runes and her crystal pendulums. Have you read the books or watched the TV series yet? What do you think of it?
