When I was little, I had a cabin bed in the box room. The only space this bed could be was in front of the window, so I would go to sleep with my head next to it. I could see outside and down to the path directly below the flats. I used to see very tall men, wearing suits and top hats walking along underneath my window, with walking sticks. They used to scare me and I sometimes felt that If I put my hand out of the window, I could touch the top of their hats. A few years later, after my sister had moved out and I was now in her bigger bedroom, I had a bad dream and was screaming in my sleep. My mum and dad could not wake me up for about 10 minutes. I don't remember the content of the dream.
Another ghost that I was aware of in the flats complex was a young girl. She had bobbed, ginger red hair. I could see her face on the outside of top tunnel of the bridge connecting Canterbury Court (the one behind Lichfield Court) to the other block. You can see these tunnel bridges on the second picture. I don't know why I could see her face, no-one else could and I asked my mum and older sister. I went back years later to a flat nearby and looked up, and the face was still there on the outside of the tunnel. I know I never liked to go up to the 6th floor near the tunnel. It would make my stomach heave and I would be nervous and could never wait to get away. This feeling didn't go away when I returned as an adult.
There was also another area of the flats that scared me for no apparent reason. This was a small block on Fence Avenue. The small park area behind this block has featured in a few nightmares I've had as an adult and long after the flats were torn down.
